Full-time or part-time | Flexible hours | London Living Wage+ (up to £40k for the right person)

We're Butternut Bikes – a proper independent bike shop in the heart of Crouch End founded five years ago. We've built a strong reputation for honest advice, quality service, and looking after the sort of bikes people actually ride every day, as well as selling family cargo bikes (Such as Tern, Estarli, Muli, Veloe...). Whether it's a well-used commuter, a carefully chosen cargo bike, or a fast road machine, we treat them all with the same care.

We're a busy, friendly team with lovely customers and high standards – and we're looking for another mechanic to join us.

The role:

This is a workshop role with variety. You'll be servicing and repairing a steady stream of practical bikes – mostly commuters and family setups – with the occasional high-end or vintage oddity thrown in. You'll also be helping customers with repairs, giving advice, ordering stock, and keeping the workshop running smoothly.

Hours are flexible – ideally Tuesday to Friday, with some Saturdays (regular or occasional, up to you). It's a permanent role, but we're open to short-term help if that's more your thing. We are also very much open to someone who has been out of the trade for a while, and fancies dipping their toe back in the water, even if it's for a few months to help us out as a bit of a project.

You might be the right fit if you:

*   Have worked in a bike shop before (as a mechanic or in a dual role)
*   Or you've got practical experience from another trade and a real interest in bikes
*   Can work independently and take pride in doing things properly
*   Enjoy talking to customers and being part of a team
*   Don't mind the odd mad repair job or niche setup
*   Don't necessarily have Cytech – we're more interested in your skills than your certificates

What we offer:

*   A proper wage – starting at the London Living Wage and going up to £40k depending on experience
*   Free lunch (!), staff discounts, and good Yorkshire Tea
*   A nice backyard to hang out in
*   A cheerful, collaborative workshop with a genuinely decent atmosphere
*   A dog called Sprocket, who takes her role as Barketing Manager fairly seriously
*   A chance to work somewhere that's proud of the service we offer – and the community we're part of

We're proud that our customers are a real mix – families, commuters, weekend riders, bike nerds and people who just want to get from A to B. At least half our customers are women, and we'd love our team to reflect that better. We're actively looking to improve the diversity of the cycling industry, and we welcome applicants from backgrounds underrepresented in this space.

To apply:
Send a CV to workshop@butternutbikes.co.uk or just tell us what you've been up to.
Bonus points if you include a strange-but-true repair story or your favourite tool.
