About us:

Rat Race Cycles is a bike shop that's mainly a workshop in Nunhead, London SE15. We've built an excellent reputation for bike servicing and customer services over the last 9 years and we're proud to have a 4.9 star rating on Google with 128 reviews so far. We're not a big shop (although we're expanding the premises later this year to add two more workstands and more stock and workshop storage) but we punch above our weight; we have a lot of loyal and keen customers, mainly commuters, urban and road riders but with an increasing number of gravel and mountain bikers.
We're a close-knit team and we're committed to being an inclusive workspace; diversity in the team is key. Nunhead's a lovely area just east of Peckham and the main street is comprised of almost entirely independent shops, so the area has a lot of character and we're happy to be part of the supportive local community.

Our current head mechanic is emigrating this summer, so we need to find a new one!

About who we're looking for:
We need someone with several years of full-time workshop experience, preferably as a workshop manager. You'll need to be able to handle almost anything that comes through the door, from cargo bikes to EPS, TT rigs with full internal cables to Sturmey Archer to Bromptons to gluing tubulars. You'll need to be good on the phone, computer-savvy enough to use our EPOS system, and financially aware.
At our core is superb customer service, so you'll need to be excellent at communicating with all kinds of customers with kindness and consideration; we have people desperate to keep their basic bike running for as little as possible as it's their only form of transport, and we have people with a fleet of five-figure superbikes who want the newest kit, and we treat them equally, whether they know loads about bikes or very little.
You'll be training and developing more junior staff, and because we know learning never stops, you'll also be keeping up with the latest tech docs, and attending training courses to get to grips with whatever's new - because odds are it's going to come through the door shortly.

It's a full time role, at the moment working a variable 4x10-hour days a week, with some Saturdays (but we're closed on Sundays). Salary is negotiable based on experience but may be somewhere around £29,000pa. Please visit ratracecycles.com/jobs to apply.
